Fish freezing for sushi

Dry ice is used to prepare the freshest sushi by rapidly freezing freshly caught fish. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration requires that the fish be frozen first (to kill parasites) before eating raw. Tuna is the exception, but seafood experts believe that tuna quick-freezing preserves flavor better. The leading sushi chefs prefer frozen and preserved fish at -70 °F, instead of the industry standard of -10 °F. It takes about a day and a half to completely freeze a 500-pound tuna with dry ice and liquid nitrogen. The frozen fish can be preserved as long as two years. The fish is cut into pieces and thawed in warm water just before serving.

Dry ice in the health industry is used for capillary cooling during chemotherapy to prevent patient hair loss. For years, patients have been told to “accept” their hair loss, but now they have a possibility to help them prevent it.

Super-cooled caps (-20 F to -30F) are worn before, during and after the current treatment of intravenous chemotherapy. Thanks to this caps the blood vessels below the skin on the scalp contract themselves reducing the amount of toxic chemicals that reach the hair follicles.

Patients do not have to look for a super cold freezer in any laboratory, they just have to use dry ice. Thousands of patients in the United States have already used this method successfully for years.

Auto repair

To repair the dent to your car with dry ice, park your car with the dent in the sun and let it get hot. Use gloves to place a small block of dry ice in the dent. The rapid cooling of the dent will help the material be flexible enough to repair it without scratching the paint.
